What to Expect Before & After a Facelift
Undergoing a facelift can be a life-changing decision that can improve both the quality of your life and your appearance. The confidence you’ll gain following your procedure can open the door to a variety of experiences. Even so, making a decision to have any type of surgery, including facelift surgery, should be taken lightly. You should have a firm understanding of what to expect both before and after the procedure:
- Before Facelift Surgery
You should thoroughly discuss any questions, concerns, and reservations you have surrounding your surgery with your cosmetic surgeon. The more information that you have, the more at ease you will feel. Ask questions regarding what kind of results you can expect, how long the surgery will take, what the recovery will be like, and if there are any special considerations that should be made because of your medical history. Learn if there are any lifestyle changes that you need to make before surgery, such as giving up smoking. Your cosmetic surgeon will likely provide you with a list of instructions of things to do before your surgery, so be sure to follow this list closely.
- After Facelift Surgery
You will likely be tender and mildly uncomfortable in the first few days after surgery, but any intense pain is not normal. If your cosmetic surgeon has prescribed pain killers, use them as needed to control discomfort. You will have some swelling and bruising, but these will decrease in time. You’ll have dressings that should be removed about two days after your surgery. You should take it easy for two to three weeks following surgery to allow your body time to heal.
