What is a Mini-Facelift?

Last updated 7 months ago

A face lift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to reduce the signs of aging, including fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin that blemishes your natural facial contours. While most individuals are relatively familiar with traditional face lifts, there are actually several variations to the procedure. Continue reading to learn more about mini face lifts.

  • Uses and Indications

A mini face lift is a type of rhytidectomy procedure that focuses on the lower portion of the face. This procedure may be right for you if you are unhappy with minor sagging around your cheeks or excess skin along your jawline that creates a jowl-like appearance and changes your profile.

  • Procedural Steps

Unlike other face lift procedures, mini face lifts can be performed on an outpatient basis in your cosmetic surgeon’s office through oral sedation and local anesthesia. After administering anesthesia, your cosmetic surgeon will make miniscule incisions along your jawline or along the base of your ears in order to remove excess skin and re-drape the remaining tissues for a more youthful appearance.

  • Recovery

Any post-operative bruising and swelling should dissipate within approximately two to three weeks following the procedure. Your cosmetic surgeon may prescribe medications or advise you to use over-the-counter aids to reduce any discomfort during the recovery process. However, you can help alleviate swelling and discomfort by elevating your head while you sleep and increasing your water intake—water keeps your body hydrated and enables more oxygen to reach the incision areas, ultimately expediting the healing process. It is important to visit your cosmetic surgeon in the weeks following your procedure in order to have the stitches removed and to ensure that your new facial contours are healing properly.

The best way to determine if a mini face lift is right for you is to consult your cosmetic surgeon. For more information on your candidacy, give the Center for Facial Appearances a call at (801) 363-3355. We also offer eye lifts, facial fillers, and Botox injections at our facility in Utah.
