What to Expect from Your Forehead Lift

Last updated 7 months ago

A forehead lift is a great option for repositioning low or sagging brows as well as minimizing the look of forehead creases—including those that occur along the bridge of the nose between the eyebrows. While only an experienced cosmetic surgeon can determine if a forehead lift is right for you, you may wish to learn about what you can expect from the procedure.

  • Before the Procedure

As with any plastic surgery procedure, your cosmetic surgeon will have you complete a medical history questionnaire during your initial consultation in order to determine your eligibility for the procedure. This may include questions regarding your family medical history, personal history of disease, previous surgeries, current medications, and lifestyle factors. Your cosmetic surgeon will then discuss your goals and provide you with a list of pre-operative guidelines.

  • During Surgery

After administering anesthesia, your cosmetic surgeon will make a set of incisions behind your temporal and central hairline. Once these incisions have been made, your cosmetic surgeon will use a special tool known as an endoscope to loosen the soft tissues along your brow-line before lifting them to a more youthful position. After closing the incisions with sutures, your surgeon will dress the area will sterile gauze bandages to reduce swelling and help your tissues adjust to their new position.

  • After the Forehead Lift

Any bruising or swelling experienced following a forehead lift should dissipate after three weeks; sutures are usually removed after two weeks. While you may shampoo your hair the day after your surgery, per your surgeon’s approval, it is important not to scrub the incision areas in order to avoid damaging your newly healing tissues. Your surgeon may also advise you to avoid using harsh chemicals or dying your hair for at least three weeks following your forehead lift.
